Business Runnymede is thrilled to announce that a new programme offering free expert business support as well as grants of up to £5,000 will be launching this Autumn.

The service, which will be exclusively aimed at Runnymede businesses demonstrating growth potential, will be run by a team of expert business advisors on behalf of Runnymede Borough Council and Business Runnymede. The programme is funded through the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund.

The offical launch of the service will be taking place at a special Business Runnymede event this October, though representatives from the service will be attending the upcoming September Business Runnymede networking event to provide further details and answer any questions.

Runnymede has retained its ranking as one of the most economically competitive parts of the country in the recently published UK Competitiveness Index 2023. The report, which was compiled by experts at the University of Cardiff and Nottingham Business School, saw Runnymede rank as the ninth most competitive district out of 362 local authority areas in the country – the highest ranking of any area outside of London.

The authors of the report attribute Runnymede’s high ranking to its focus on high-technology sectors of the economy. You can read more about what this means for the borough in our recently published Economic Assessment.

If you are one of the many businesses facing recruitment challenges, have you considered employing people from a wider pool of talent? In Surrey there are around 12,000 autistic people, many of whom would love to be working but they find the application process a real barrier. Once they secure a job, they become key employees and contribute a great deal to the business.

This event will demonstrate some brilliant examples of employers and employees making adjustments for the benefit of both. You will have the chance to meet people who are working with autistic and other neurodivergent people to help them find a suitable job. You will also find out about the advice and guidance which is available for your organisation to build your confidence and enable you to more easily cast your net across a broader pool of talent.
